Lance Armstrong may ride in next year’s Tour

“After the day’s racing, he was asked on French television if this would be his last year in cycling’s premier race. ‘Probably not,’ he said. ‘Maybe one more Tour.’ Armstrong, who is riding for Astana without salary this year, has previously hinted he may launch his own team next season. When Astana was hit by financial trouble this year and faced the prospect of being thrown out of the ProTour, Armstrong said he could take over the team with the backing of U.S. sponsors.”

Minor League Baseball

Round Rock Express 1 – Nashville Sounds 3

“The Nashville Sounds beat the Round Rock Express 3-1 in a rain-shortened seven-inning game at Greer Stadium on Sunday. The Sounds took three out of five in the series and enter the All-Star Break with a four-game lead in the American Northern Division. Nashville starter Chase Wright allowed one run on three hits in three innings. Sam Narron (1-2) threw five scoreless innings in relief, striking out five and earning the win.”

Pro Soccer

Austin Aztex 1 – 2 Portland Timbers

“As time wound down Saturday night at Nelson Field, Austin, trailing 1-0, earned one last corner kick, prompting goalkeeper Sam Reynolds to sprint up field into the opposing box, Noel-Williams, making his return from a hamstring injury, headed in the equalizing goal to tie it 1-1. The striker leaped high to direct the ball into the top corner and send the crowd into delirium. Moments later, the 3,114 fans were silent as Johan Claesson’s outstretched leg pushed the ball past Reynolds and into the bottom corner of the far post. Portland’s stunning goal left all 11 Aztex prone on the turf as the Timbers celebrated.”

High School Sports

Westlake was named the best high school sports program in Central Texas

“For a second straight year, Westlake has been named the top athletic program in Central Texas. The Chaparrals won a state championship in boys golf and reached the state tournament in volleyball and baseball. Two Central Texas Player of the Year awards went to Westlake, one for Elly Barrett in volleyball and another for Erin Wikelius in soccer.”

College Sports

Texas State is increasing its athletic budget in order to try to move to FBS

“Texas State’s athletic allowance has increased exponentially over the past four years. The Bobcats were granted $13,422,782 for 2009. That was an increase of $2,222,143 from the previous year. Texas State’s $13 million was a far cry from the budgets for 2005 and 2006. The athletic department was given $8,740,963 and $9,414,952, respectively. ‘We pull the money from what we’re given by the school, state and students,’ Teis said. ‘From there, we separate it out to where we need it.’ “
