Huston Street and Matt Miller: Quick Update

You know where Bud Norris and Yorman Bazardo stand. You also got the latest on Drew Stubbs.

So to complete the puzzle of the four AAA All-Stars from Central Texas, I contacted Russ Oates of the Colorado Rockies blog Purple Row and asked him if he could give a quick scouting report on former Texas State Bobcat Matt Miller.

Matt Miller can hit, but time isn’t on his side (turning 27 in December). He doesn’t have the power to be a starting outfielder, so he’s limited to being a fourth outfielder.

I don’t see him playing in the majors this year, especially with the Rockies contending. And 2010, as of now, doesn’t look anymore promising with all the quality outfielders the Rockies have.

I’m not sure, but he may be a minor league free agent after this season ends. He could choose to sign with an [organization] that will give him a better chance.

And while I was at it, I asked Russ to give his opinion on the rumors of former Westlake High School and Texas Longhorn standout Huston Street getting traded this season.

That seems unlikely to happen now that the Rockies are competing for the Wild Card. After a bad first week to the season, Street’s been lights out for the Rockies and he’s an integral part for the Rockies to make the playoffs.
